Carter, an internationally renowned industry name, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He was director of corporate analyst relations at Hewlett-Packard, where he worked to enhance analyst understanding of the company and its leadership role in the IT industry; he also founded SageCircle, providing technology vendors with insights and applications for working closely with IT and telecommunications industry analysts. Prior to this he was a research fellow at Gartner, which twice named him Analyst of the Year.
Commenting on his appointment, Carter said: “Ovum was the perfect destination for my return to IT industry analysis. Following its integration with Datamonitor, the company now has the critical mass and unique offering that means it can make a real difference to IT and telecommunications companies and offer something over-and-above what’s available from the likes of Forester and Gartner.”
"There has never been a more interesting time to cover enterprise applications because of the fluidity of the competitor landscape, new players and new technologies. CIOs and IT managers are confronted with even more complexity and hard decisions to make, while IT departments need to change from being providers of infrastructure to being innovators that help their companies drive top line revenue growth through the innovative use of technologies and techniques.”
Carter will be based at Ovum’s new Silicon Valley office in Redwood City.
Ovum business unit director, Brett Azuma, concludes: “The enterprise applications market has evolved considerably and conventional market coverage does not provide the wide angle view that enterprise clients need. We believe that Carter's new role combined with our world class team of software and industry analysts and collaborative intelligence approach with vertical sector specialists at Datamonitor, we can provide the breadth and depth that our clients need.”
