Stanley Yang, CEO NeuroSky
Korea IT Times recently had the pleasure interviewing Stanley Yang, CEO of NeuroSky, Inc, who will be a keynote speaker at the KES2010 event being held KINTEX in Ilsan, Gyeonggi Province October 12 - 15, 2010. We asked Mr Yang to tell us about his upcoming visit to Korea, his role in the KES2010, his company an his feelings about the Korean market for his company's products. What follows is the result of that dialog.

KITT:     Please describe for us the nature of your business.
SY:    NeuroSky was founded in 2004. Our business is Consumer Bio-Sensing Devices for human to machine interface.  We are a ventured backed privately held company, with 50 employees, headquartered in San Jose, California in the Silicon Valley.

KITT:    What are your plans for the KES 2010
SY:    My primary reason for attending the KES2010 event is to deliver a keynote speech. I will talk about The Future of Consumer Bio-Interfacing. Our Korean distributor, S&T Global, may exhibit our products at the show.

KITT:     What do you feel is the most important thing to your business about the Korean market
SY:    Ideally, we will be able to raise the level of public awareness of our products in Korea.

KITT:     Are there any specific companies that you are looking forward to seeing at the KES 2010  SY:    Yes, quite a few of our customers and potential customers will be there.  I am looking forward to visiting companies in the education/learning, gaming, and entertainment business.

KITT: Can you provide some biographical information for the story
SY:     I became Chief Executive Officer of NeuroSky, Inc., a bio-sensor company in Silicon Valley, California, in 2005.  NeuroSky has developed a revolutionary non-invasive neural communication sensor that converts brainwaves and other bio-signals into electronic signals for communication and control of electronic devices, consoles, and computers.  Prior to NeuroSky, I served as Sr. Vice President of Business Development and CFO at Sage-N Research, Inc., developing super computing systems for proteomics applications.  In 1997, I co-founded and served as President & CEO of Triscend Corporation, a configurable system-on-chip IC company.  Triscend was acquired by Xilinx, Inc. in March of 2004.  Prior to Triscend I spent 11 years working at Xilinx, Inc. in various engineering and management positions.

KITT:    What can you tell us about NeuroSky
SY:    NeuroSky, Inc. is the leader in Brain-Computer Interface technologies for consumer product application.  Founded in 2004 and headquartered in San Jose, CA, NeuroSky works with industry partners, developers, and with academic and research institutions, to provide innovative products and solutions across a wide range of areas. From its headquarters in San Jose, CA, NeuroSky works with industry partners, developers, and academic and research institutions, to provide innovative brainwave sensor products across a wide range of industries including toys, games, health and automotive. NeuroSky currently distributes the NeuroSky MindSet in the Unites States, European Union, Japan, China and Korea.

KITT:     How did the technology used in the NeuroSky products come about
SY:    Grounded in over 60 years of medical research, NeuroSky’s technology has taken proven medical EEG (electroencephalograph) technology, and evolved it for application to the mass market by making it more user-friendly and cost-effective. Technological innovations include significant advancements in electrical noise reduction, dry-sensor development (rather than requiring a wet conductive gel), substantial “cost engineering” (reducing the price), and enabling the wearer to use it outside of a lab (without the assistance of a doctor).  With such universal innovation, NeuroSky’s games and other applications are sure to have an impact in a variety of arenas in the coming years.

KITT: That sounds very exciting. I'm sure that many people attending the KES 2010 will have an interest in what you have to say in you keynote speech. Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions and we look forward to meeting you at the show.
SY:    You are most welcome.  See you at KES.
