IMID 2010

This year, IMID 2010, or the Internatonal Meeting on Information Display International Display Manufacturing Conference and Asia Display 2010, will take place for the 10th time.

"For the last 10 years, IMID has grown into a world-class symposium thanks to so many people from the industrial, academic and research fields who paid so much attention. We are preparing a variety of colorful attractions and a giveaway for the upcoming event," said Kwon Oh-kyong, General Chair of IMID.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, IMID 2010 is organizing a special photo exhibition to commemorate the last 10 years of IMID. In addition to the symposium, the Photo Exhibition of IMID's History will be held from October 12 to Oct 15.

A special session on 3D Display, a keynote speech and lectures by foremost experts in the 3D Display field during tutorial sessions and a workshop will be held.

A preview note from Executive Chair of IMID, Lee Sin-doo

Lee Sin-doo, the executive chair of IMID 2010, explained the significance of IMID and shared what is expected at IMID Conference 2010.

Lee Sin-Doo, Executive chair of IMID

"IMID is the world's second biggest symposium (next to the SID- Society for Information Display which takes place in the U.S every May) in the information and display field. Together with the exhibition of new products, it has much contributed to the development of future fundamental technology, process and product technology in the information display field and to new market creation.

This year, celebrating its 10th anniversary, IMID will be exhibiting the new vision for LCD, PDP, OLED, Flexible display, 3D, Micro display, etc., which are next-generation products to the existing flat panel display with a 100-billion-dollar world market," Executive Chair of IMID, Lee-sin doo, is also a professor of the school of electrical engineering at Seoul National University.

"IMID is also expected to focus on the function and role of information displays with digital convergence and green technology in mind. The core technology of mobile applications such as smart phones, tablet PCs, and that of large home appliances, including HDTV all have intensely competitive markets worldwide which will be discussed.

Mr. Lee Sin-doo further addressed that IMID 2010 will emphasize not just on the technology itself, but rather on the practical use and application of technologies to 3D display, smart phones, tablet PCs and e-books. The key materials and components related to these products will be featured as well.

One of the attractions of the IMID, the Business Forum (co-hosted by DisplaySearch) is preparing an instructive program to celebrate its 4th anniversary. During the program, you can check out the recent trends in the display industry, including FPC, LCD panel market analysis, emerging display, mobile display, etc.," said Professor Lee.

Keynote Speech

On October 12, keynote speeches will be given to address the direction of the display industry. Mr. Hyung Tae-gun, Commissioner of the Korea Communications Commission will deliver a keynote speech on the issue of Green Growth and the Internet Economy. Mr. Yoon Boo-Keun, President and General Manager of Visual Display Business, Samsung Electronics's is also scheduled to speak on "The Third Wave of TV". Associate Professor of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology is coming from Japan to give a keynote speech, as well. Professor Yasuhiro Takaki will give a speech on "Next-generation and Ultimate 3D Display".

From oxide semiconductors to LCD materials for 3D

"The best feature of IMD 2010 is variety of world-class guest speakers from academia and Korean industrial fields, many of whom represent Korea's world renowned IT industry," continued the executive chair of IMID.

Approximately 100 guest speakers from 14 different fields are scheduled to take the stage at the symposium.

In the AMD field, Professor Nomura from Tokyo Institute of Technology and Professor Man Wong from Hong Kong University of Science & Technology are bringing the hot plates to the display table: notes on oxide semiconductors. The oxide semiconductors are essential in AMOLED and next-generation LCD technology.

Professor Lachezar Komitov from Gothenburg University and Harry Coles from Cambridge are scheduled to give a speech on LCD Panel along with Dr. Jang Yong-kyu of SMD and professor Kwon Hoi-Sing of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Two great speakers then will follow the speech to announce their new technology about the state-of-the-art high-speed LCD and LCD materials, which can be applied to 3D technology.

LED and OLED

"From the back light field, which is recently drawing a lot of industrial and academic attention, Samsung, LG Innotek, and Osaka University are scheduled to introduce various developments in the newest LED technology and trends.

Regarding to the fields of OLED materials, the CTO from Dupont and two speakers from UDC (an American corporation) will cover the presentation on White OLED materials and diverse new OLED technologies," Professor Lee noted.

Flexible display and 3D display

"Dr. Yun Soo-young from LG Display, Dr. Sakurai at Bridgestone, Dr. Klauk at Max Planck lab will introduce "E-paper", the key technology of the future flexible displays, and organic transistors on behalf of the flexible display field.

The 3D display, now known to be the biggest player in the display field, has a lot to say. Speakers invited from Korea, Japan and France are preparing to make an announcement of Human Factor, 3D Image Processing, Autostreoscopic Display, and Hologram technologies.

Professor Vladimir V. Saveljev from Hanyang University (an applied physicist and mathematician who is also known as a leading world authority on 3D display) is scheduled to give a lecture about 'Geometric Projective Model of Autostereoscopic 3D Display'

Professor Osamu Matoba from Kobe Univ., a specialist in 3D display based on Integral Imaging will be lecturing about "Digital Holography and Wavefront 3D Display by Liquid-Crystal Spatial Light Modulator". Afair number of other announcements are expected to be made.

Also, there will be a speech and an oral session by specialists in photovoltaic (solar cell) technologies.

Professor Hayase from Japan's Kyushu Institute of Technology, professor Lee Jae-hyoung from Kunsan University, professor Frank Koo from Taiwan's Minghsin University will present the new technologies of DSSC and CIGS Solar Cell that have a similar manufacturing process to that of flat panel display," Professor Lee depicted a clear picture of IMID Conference 2010.
