
President Lee Myung Pak met with the UN Secretary-General Ban Gi-moon, who came to Korea to attend the Seoul G20 Summit Conference in the Blue House on the morning of the 10th. They exchanged opinions regarding the balanced growth of the world and the solutions for the climate changes.
President Lee Myung-bak wishes that the G20 development activity plan can contribute to achieving the Millennium Development Goals of UN. The president also encouraged Mr. Ban to play a leading role in discussing the development topics in Seoul G20 Summit Conference.
President Lee announced that he evaluates "the UN and the efforts of Secretary-General Ban for the solutions of the Millennium Development Goals and climate changes, UN Peace Maintenance Activities" and that Korean government will "expand the contribution to the international societies as a responsible member of the global society and also strengthen the cooperative relationship with the UN."
"UN and the G20 can cooperate mutually," Mr. Ban continued, "Korea is actively playing a role at the international level based on their higher reputation, such as G20 and the UN" The UN Secretary-General Ban expects an active cooperation with Korea regarding the main international issues.
Having this one-to- one meeting with Mr. Ban as a start, President Lee Myung-bak is having a private meeting with the top representatives of each G20 member countries today.
