Winners of the Man of Merit Award at the 11th Software Industry Day

On November 17, the '11th Software Industry Day' was held at Palace Hotel in Seoul. More than 300 industrial people and government officials attended in celebration of the event where 37 people received the Man of Merit Award.

Choi Kyunghwan, Minister of Ministry of Knowledge Economy

Choi Kyung-hwan, addressed, "For the leap of the SW industry, promote the follow-up step for the 'Software Powerhouse Strategy' which was announced in February of this year." He also asked that major companies actively enter the foreign market and SMEs (Small Medium Enterprises) to strengthen its core capabilities as a specialist software company as to follow the ongoing accompanied growth strategy.

Kim Young-Hwan, Member of the National Assembly and Chairman of the Knowledge Economy Committee delivered a congratulatory address. He said, "Korea needs to strive more to be the real power of IT. To lead the IT industry in the world, developing talented human resources, source technology, creative software and systems are also required for being an IT power house." He also stressed that Software is the new growth engine of Korea.

Recently, the Man of Merit award ceremony was bestowed by Minister Choi and 37 additional industrial employees received awards.

Cho Hyun-jung, Chairman of BIT Computer received the Silver Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit for devoting 20 years to software human resource development. He has helped the national SW industry flourish through a professional educational institution, the 'BIT School'. Thus far the BIT School has produced over 8,200 advanced developers in the SW IT industry.

BIT Com is the first software development venture company specializing as a medical sector solution. They are laying the groundwork for being a global u-Healthcare market leader.

As SW emerged as the core of competitiveness across all industries, other industries such as manufacturing, finance was also discovered and received merit awards this year.

In addition, the 'Software Contest of Korea' bestowed the President's Award to Lee Young-hee, President & CEO of Hyundai Information Technology Co., LTD.

Kang Kyung-hum, CEO of Merlin Inc. received the Prime Minister's Award along with Lee Wonbae, CEO of Paran Soft; Michael Park, President of Voice Eye; Kwak Jong-guen, Chief Executive Officer of UDMTEK; Song Hee-kyung, Managing Director of Daewoo Information Systems; and others received the Minister's Award.
