As of today, November 26, LG has received the official certification from Korean, Japanese, Chinese, and European governments for its LED lighting and Plasma Light System products which are eco-friendly, safe, and energy efficient. According to the Korean Energy Management Corporation (KEMCO), LG bulbs significantly save energy by up to 70 percent and have a lifespan of 50,000 hours. Earlier this year, KEMCO recognized the company's MR16 LED light for saving 80 percent on energy costs.

LG is recognized as one of the leaders in green technology. Vice President of the Lighting & Solutions Business Team explains its focus, "Green energy, carbon and environmental protection concepts have been widely accepted throughout the world and there is enormous opportunity for companies with core technologies and brand recognition. With long-honed expertise in energy efficient technologies, the potential for LG to make a significant environmental contribution is enormous."

Consumers demand for energy-saving lighting is increasing at a constant rate of 30 percent annually. As a result, LG expects to produce at least 5 million units by 2012 to meet this demand. It is predicted that by 2015, energy-efficient lighting will replace the traditional form of lighting.

LG has competitive advantage in the green technology market due to its industry know-how, quality and ability to compete in price. It is likely that LG now and into the future will be the super power in energy saving technologies just as it has in its other products such as ventilating, air conditioning and heating products.
