The Blue House gears up for the New Year

Amidst yearly reports and operation plans from various government departments, the Blue House revealed their plans for the coming year to the public. According to the Blue House website, some of the big themes include Green Growth, welfare plans for various people in need and as well as strengthening national competitiveness.

Green, the buzz word

Green Growth seems to be a trend in most government organizations this year and it was no different for the Blue House. While the IT industry is mainly focusing on Green IT and convergence technology, the Blue House showed its interest in pursuing the 'Green New Deal' plan. This will allow the economy to revive by focusing on the rising green industry, thus creating new jobs and profits while also addressing the environmental issues that the world is facing today.

To create 'Green Jobs', the Blue House will carry on with its controversial Four River Project and as well as looking for new areas to support such as laying down the Green Nation information infrastructures, creating a Green transport network and finding alternate energy sources such as mid-level eco friendly dams. The Blue House hopes that this will create and keep a level of demand for jobs in various fields from engineering to management while also looking for ways to solve environmental problems.

How to last in the competition

Creating a stronger economy that will raise national competitiveness has always been a key goal for the government, and this year seems to be no different. With the IT industry making progress in leaps and bounds especially in the smart technology and convergence area, implementing these advances in technology into the industry seems to be a big goal for 2011.

The gap between global conglomerates and the smaller businesses have been an issue over the past year. The Blue House has plans to support these smaller businesses in order to raise their competitiveness, thus also empowering the bigger firms. This will be done through implementing policies to enable bigger companies to support their partner businesses and as well as government support in terms of manpower and funds to start creating a self-sufficient atmosphere for the smaller businesses. The successful hosting of the G20 summit and various other diplomatic activities are also resources that can be capitalized to create a stronger economy.

Hope of the citizens

A big part of the president's pledge includes better life for the common people. This is reflected in the website report by showing a five percent increase in 2011 operation funding to KRW 309.1 trillion. Funding plans were divided for different classification of people, from socially disadvantaged people to foreigners living in multi-cultural families.

For the disadvantaged, plans are on the way to provide financial aid and welfare aid in the form of increased jobs for disabled citizens and support for parents raising disabled children. Women and children are able to enjoy more benefits such as increased pay for maternity leave, government support for education and safer roads in school areas. For other job support programs are planned as well such as increase in sports welfare for all people, and increased welfare for armed forces. Multi-cultural families are gaining much attention nowadays, and the Blue House addresses potential future problems by providing education to multi-cultural children and providing adaptation programs for immigrants.

The Blue House hopes to carry on their policy of creating a government that serves the people, a vibrant market economy, active welfare support, competent manpower and a mature member of the world state for 2011.
