Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yu In-Chon announced a strategy to raise major global content for the comics, animation and characters industry.
Minister Yu briefed the press on the 24th that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will invest 7 hundred billion won into the field of comics, animation, and characters within the next five years to raise industrial potential and human resources. They expect the industry to grow to 7 trillion won in the domestic market, employ at least 10,000 new people and gain 2 billion dollars in the export market.
They are also planning to extend the domestic market value to 12.8 trillion won by 2013 and earn about a trillion won of additional sales and actual exports through creating major global content.
"It is a fact that cultural content brings outstanding effects for the creation of employment and for raising the economic growth rate, but we have not weighed it much. So, we are planning to focus on setting up overseas marketing support strategies and additional political development for this field within next 5 years," Yu explained.
Yu said the ministry is planning to continuously process an assistance business for making major content based on the strategy of one source multiple uses. He also said that the ministry will be working to create infrastructure for the purpose of training professional workers. He plans to integrate education development centers in research and development, get support of foreign experts in the field of cultural content, open cultural content-related courses in colleges, and strengthen the ties between game, broadcast and design academies.
