South Korean President Lee Myung-Bak will visit Russia next week to meet his counterpart Dmitry Medvedev and discuss economic and energy cooperation, the presidential office said on Wednesday.
Mr Lee will visit the country from September 9 to 10 to attend a policy forum in Yaroslavl, 250 kilometres (156 miles) northeast of Moscow, and hold a summit with Mr Medvedev, his office said in a statement. The summit in Yaroslavl on September 10 will be the fourth meeting between the two leaders, who will also mark the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between their countries. They will discuss strengthening cooperation in areas including the development of Siberia and its energy resources, Russias economic modernisation and the G20 summit to be held in Seoul in November.
Mr Lee and Mr Medvedev will also discuss the security situation on the Korean peninsula and in northeast Asia. Russia is a member of stalled six-nation talks on North Koreas nuclear disarmament. Trade between the two countries was worth 9.9 billion dollars (S$13.4 billion) last year, with the South mostly exporting cars, ships and mobile phones and Russia selling natural resources including crude oil and natural gas.
