Images of the Motorola Droid 3 have leaked out, and they reveal some new information about this upcoming Android OS model. Most notably, it is apparently going to support Motorola's accessories that will turn this smartphone into a laptop or a desktop.

The original Motorola Droid was launched in 2009, and was a huge success for Verizon. It was followed up last year with the Droid 2 and the Droid 2 Global. The next iteration is apparently now in development.

The leaked images show that, like its predecessors, this will be a slider with a landscape-oriented QWERTY keyboard that can be hidden behind its large display. This, however, will supposedly be the first in this series with four rows of keys, making room for a dedicated row of number keys.

What might be a front-facing camera for video conferencing also appears on one of the pictures. Prototype units of the Droid 3 are reportedly running Google Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) with the MotoBlur user interface layered on top. A new version of this operating system may be installed by the time this device is released.

This will run on a 1.3 GHz processor, though the amount of RAM and storage capacity is unknown at this time.

Another Webtop Smartphone
Another feature revealed by the leaked images is an HDMI video-out port right next to the micro-USB port.

With this arrangement, the Droid 3 will almost certainly support this Motorola's webtop technology, which means that users are going to be able to convert it into a netbook or nettop computer running Linux and a full version of the Firefox web browser by placing this smartphone into the appropriate dock.

More Questions than Answers
Aside from these scattered details, nothing else is known about the Motorola Droid 3 at this point.

The Droid 2 Global only debuted from Verizon in November, so it's unlikely that its replacement will be released before later in the summer at the earliest. On the other hand, the Droid 2 Global came out just a few months after the Droid 2.
