Apple recently announced that its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will take place this year from June 6 to June 10 at the Moscone West in San Francisco. But the conference itself isn't what will catch peoples' eyes.

No, the real matter of importance is that a debut of the iPhone 5 could come out of the conference, given Apple's timing in the past. Previously, Apple has used the keynote address at WWDC several times to introduce its new smartphone models.

A New Schedule This Year
The timing may be disrupted this year, though, as the iPhone 5 will almost certainly sport the new iOS 5, which has supposedly been pushed back to a later date, according to TechCrunch.

If this is true, then an unveiling of the new iOS may take place at WWDC, but it wouldn't actually be released until the fall. Again, this would throw off Apple's previous release patterns, which have been to reveal a new iOS iteration in the spring and then launch it alongside a new iPhone in the summer. So even if the new iPhone is announced at WWDC in June, its actual release could be delayed until the iOS 5 release in the fall.

Either way, we are likely to at least hear some news regarding iOS 5, as Philip Schiller, Apple's senior VP of Worldwide Product Marketing said in a press release, "At this year's conference we are going to unveil the future of iOS and Mac OS. If you are an iOS or Mac OS X software developer, this is the event that you do not want to miss."

An Early Look at the iPhone 5
Though nothing has been confirmed, there have been a number of rumored specs for the iPhone 5, including a larger, 4-inch screen (as opposed to the 3.5-inch display found on previous iPhones) and a multi-core Apple A5 processor, which could be either dual- or quad-core. A dual-core graphics chip (GPU) will also supposedly be found inside the iPhone 5.

There have been many back-and-forth quibbles over whether or not it will feature Near Field Communications (NFC), with some sources saying that Apple fears that the technology isn't widespread enough, while others maintain that NFC is not out of the question yet. Other possible features include 4G connectivity and an HDMI out.
