A green village furnished with a Smart Grid will be built in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, and green factories with similar facilities will be built in Cheongju and Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province. LS Industrial Systems announced a plan on May 15 to build the green village and green factories with Smart Grids by late this year.
LS plans to drastically cut power consumption at each household in the green village by installing fuel cell energy equipment, solar power generation facilities, and power storage devices. With similar designs, LS will also build green factories at its plants in Cheongju and Cheonan based on its own power information technologies.
To this end, LS will invest 200 billion won (US$159.8 million) in the green business by 2012 and increase the ratio of sales from green business from the current 10 percent to 47 percent, or 2.1 trillion won (US$1.68 billion), by 2015.
