The C40 Large Cities Climate Summit Seoul 2009 opens May 18 and will continue for four days. The summit will discuss ways to cope with global warming and climate change and how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in cities around the world.

The summit will be attended by mayors and delegates from 80 cities of the world including London, Tokyo, Toronto and Sydney. Meetings will focus on low-carbon technologies during worldwide economic difficulties, policy directions for low-carbon cities, and cooperation among the municipal and central governments, citizens, and enterprises.  At the opening ceremony on May 19, former US President Bill Clinton will give the keynote speech on the importance of responding to climate change.

During the C40 summit, the Seoul Metropolitan Government will exchange memoranda of understanding on responses to climate change with eight cities including Toronto of Canada, Freiburg of Germany and Sao Paulo of Brazil. On the final day of the summit, the participants will adopt a Seoul Declaration on ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
