U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton walks out of her plane upon arrival at Haneda international airport in Tokyo Sunday, April 17, 2011

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was heading to Japan after two days of talks in Seoul, officials said Sunday.

In Seoul over the weekend, Clinton met with South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and pledged to work towards the ratification of a free trade agreement between the United States and South Korea as soon as possible. Clinton also met with South Korean Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan, saying both countries are in the "home stretch" of efforts to approve the trade agreement, which was first signed in 2007.

Clinton said she is "determined about the passage of the free trade agreement." Lee and Clinton vowed to work together to help Japan recover from the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. Clinton's trip also spurred speculation that the United States would participate in a massive food shipment to North Korea, a move that Seoul reportedly opposes.
