Since the beginning in Hanoi in August, 2000, the Korea-Vietnam Environment Ministers meeting has been held in one of the two countries by turns. At the 8th meeting, the two ministers discussed ways to cooperate with each other in promoting environmental industries. In addition, they reviewed the result of four projects including ‘cooperation in green growth' and ‘cooperation in water quality improvement for Vietnam', which have been carried out for the past two years.
The outcomes of the two countries' cooperation in green growth since the 7th meeting are as follows:
In an attempt to promote the exchange of green environmental technologies, the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute and a Vietnamese research center conducted two joint projects including a technology development for waste landfills in Vietnam, creating an exemplary partnership for green growth.
Also, Korea and Vietnam signed an MOU on cooperation in environmental education in March 2010, building an institutional foundation for environmental human resources development program. For the past two years, three Vietnamese public officials were dispatched to Korea and 38 participated in a training program.
During the meeting, a signing ceremony was held for the revised version of Korea-Vietnam Arrangement for Environmental Cooperation, which reflects the changed domestic and international environmental conditions - cooperation in green growth, climate change adaptation and meteorology - since the first revision in 2004.
Minister Pham Khoi Nguyen and his party also plan to visit several sites of green growth - National Institute of Environmental Research, Korea Environment Corporation, Gyeongju National Park and Pohang Iron & Steel Company - from April 19 to 21.
