As of April 19, there have been about 550,000 refugees from Libya flowing into neighboring countries and some 35,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). The international community is expanding humanitarian aid to Libya.
The Korean government has provided humanitarian aid worth 1 million dollars in total for Libyan refugees, including 500,000 dollars which the government provided in March through the World Food Programme (WFP) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in response to the UN request for humanitarian aid.
The additional financial aid of the Korean government will be used for programs to support refugees in the Libyan border areas and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) through the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
