Trinigy, an industry leading 3D game engine provider with offices in Germany, Austin, TX and Seoul, Korea, announced today that one of the world's leading contractors in the simulation & training business, Rheinmetall Defence Electronics, a division of Rheinmetall, has signed a multi-year contract to use the Vision Game Engine in the development of advanced training simulators across various disciplines.

Rheinmetall Defence Electronics (RDE) offers a comprehensive range of products and services that extends from reconnaissance, fire control and command systems to guided weapon platforms and unmanned air vehicles (UAVs). Sophisticated simulators for military and civilian training applications form one of the company's core competencies. Simulators spare real-world equipment from wear-and-tear and exposure to the elements, as well as enable training in extreme situations that would be virtually impossible to practice in the field.

To assist in the creation of realistic training environments, RDE turned to Trinigy and its COTS Vision Game Engine. The Vision Game Engine provides best-in-class authoring tools, an extensive feature set and a flexible architectural framework with out-of-the-box integrations to industry-leading middleware solutions for advanced physics and artificial intelligence. Together these features ensure that training and simulation developers can immediately concentrate on designing training solution functionality that leverages the full power of modern 3D game and simulation technology, without the burden of having to invent a modern visual simulation framework from scratch.

"The simulators we create have to replicate some extremely hazardous, demanding situations in order to be effective training solutions," said Doris Lilkendey, vice president at Rheinmetall Defence Electronics. "In our rigorous evaluation of a number of technologies, the Vision Game Engine consistently stood out as a solid, dependable and highly flexible development platform for creating some highly detailed environments."

"In many ways, the simulators created by defence organizations like Rheinmetall Defence Electronics are the pinnacle of 3D creation," remarked Felix Roeken, general manager of Trinigy. "The graphics and the environments must be real enough to make an indelible impression in the mind of the trainee. While we've always understood the power of our technology, it is still both humbling and gratifying to know that our technology has been chosen for a task as serious as Rheinmetall's."
