South Korea has launched an on-site inspection to verify claims that drums of Agent Orange were buried over 30 years ago during the Vietnam War. The toxic defoliant might be at a U.S. military facility in the southeastern part of the country, the Ministry of Environment stated.

The ministry said a 10-member inspection team composed of government officials and environmental experts has been dispatched to Camp Carroll. "Detailed investigation plans will be established after figuring out the environmental situation near the U.S. military base and the flow of underground water," said a ministry official, quoted by Yonhap News.

Reports of the dumping first appeared last week on an American TV station, when three U.S. Army veterans said they had been ordered to bury about 250 drums of the defoliant at Camp Carroll in 1978.
