Development of ASIC for POS: SONET high-speed packet supportA high-function Intrusion Detection System (IDS), which can deal with the 2.5-giga data speed of the Internet Service Provider (ISP) high-speed data network, has been developed by WINS Technet.Network security company WINS Technet introduced the high function IDS for 2.5-giga Packet Over SONET (POS) applications. Basically, the IDS for the 2.5-giga POS offers such functions as real-time hacking analysis and detection provided by the WINS Technet Sniper IDS, analysis of network statistics, network traffic monitoring, and tracking of attackers. It is a high-function ASIC-based intrusion detection system, which stably supports the packet data speed of the 2.5-giga bit SONET. Synchronous Optical NETwork (SONET) is a high-speed data communication international standard for optical fiber media. As it supports data communication to a maximum of 2.5-giga bit, it is chiefly used in ISP service networks. Through its technology tie-up with a company possessing network card and chipset technology for the ISP SONET network, WINS Technet developed the ASIC for the 2.5-giga POS and enhanced the network packet disposal function of the IDS. WINS Technet company president, Kim Dae-yeon said "The major feature of the SONET network is its high-speed backbone network. Accordingly, purchasers of the 2.5-giga bit IDS will be acquiring a high-speed backbone network. We expect to be able to show tangible results through the introduction of our new product in the first half of 2005." WINS Technet introduced the IDS for the 2.5-giga POS at the "Internet Service & Network Security Technology Conference," which was jointly organized by the Korea Information Security Industry Association and the ISP Association on Oct. 15th. In addition to participating in the product exhibition at the event, the company gave a presentation on how to apply the product to ISPs."
