INCHEON, KOREA --- The city of Incheon has three powerful opportunities that could manifest infinite potential and possibility:
First, to further open and embrace the world through the Incheon International Airport, the rated the best in the world, and Incheon Port.
Second, with its proximity to the emerging power China, their Free Economic Zone, and the core infrastructure for distribution to North East Asia in place, Incheon is emerging as the new engine of South Korea’s growth in the 21st century.
Third, based on a number of promising businesses in the city, Incheon is fostering various industries including IT, robots, and culture.
As a bridge for north-east Asia’s U-business and base for world-class IT enterprises, Incheon is transforming into a global city of knowledge information industry through enhancement and convergence of information communication technology (ICT), as well as culture and robotics technology. Furthermore, Incheon city, in association with Incheon IT Promotion Agency has been selecting Incheon’s Star Enterprises and awarding the “Incheon IT Technology Award” since 2001 in an effort to support their marketing activities, promotion of the awarded technology, and nurture the companies into global brands. The city’s efforts to foster global companies also includes supporting companies participation in international ICT exhibitions and holding a global trade consultation fair where influential buyers are invited from many different parts of the world.
Historically, Incheon has been leading the culture and economy of South Korea. In late 19th century, the city opened the door to machine transportation with the Gyeongin Railroad, and contributed to the development of the communication infrastructure in Korea by building the country’s first post office. Moreover, in 1996, looking forward to the upcoming 21st century, Incheon became the venue for trial of CDMA wireless communication, and Korea’s first Free Economic Zone was established in Incheon as well.
