
SEOUL, KOREA --- “Search for Kko-Kko-Myeon on Amazon.” Korea’s most popular instant ramen of this year, Kko-Kko-Myeon, is now available on Amazon, America’s biggest online shopping mall.
Kko-Kko-Myeon, which went on sale in August of this year, broke the stereotype of the existing ramen soups’ by not having a red broth. It has been selected as the hottest product of this year by the Samsung Economic Research Institute (SERI). SERI made public on the 7th of December that Kko-Kko-Myeon had taken the number one spot in selection for ‘The Top 10 Hot Products of 2011’ based on a survey from 7,725 online members of SERI and opinions from experts.
Kko-Kko-Myeon was released in August when Korea Yakult Corporation commercialized an idea from Lee Kyeong-kyu, a famous comedian. In just four months, it passed an accumulated sales volume of 7,000 to set the number one mark in sales. Breaking the common idea of ‘the ramen soup being red’, Kko-Kko-Myeon, which has its base on clear and white chicken broth, it brought out the spicy taste of cayenne pepper and thus gained wide popularity among men and people under 44. SERI analyzed the success of Kko-Kko-Myeon as consumers’ craze for something new but not unfamiliar, which breaks stereotypes and expectations.
