Korea Digital Communication Negotiations under way to supply information & communications systems By leveraging a national backbone communication network construction project in Laos, KDC (Korea Digital Communication) is aiming at making major inroads into Southeast Asia market. KDC, the 1st generation specialist NI group, said that as part of such strategies the company's project business team is gearing up to be an official information and communication business provider to the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), scheduled to be held in Laos during 2009. Should the company conclude a firm order for this project, KDC said that it would serve as a bridgehead to make inroads into Southeast Asian markets in general. KDC had consultations with the delegation from Laos, which consisted of personages such as Dr. Phouthong Seng Akhom, president of the Laotian National Sports Committee, and Mrs. Phim Pha, second secretary to the embassy of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in Seoul, with a view to positioning the company as a provider of the information of communication systems for the 2009 Southeast Asian Games. The overall project is quite considerable in scope. It involves building an Olympic-sized stadium, an athlete's village, an athletic college, hotel, golf course and casino. With regard to KDC's specific area of interest, the government of Laos is likely to place an order worth 8 billion won for communication infrastructure only, while purchasing over 20 billion won worth of information and communication systems plus security facilities. The Southeast Asian Games is held every two years at a location within the region. Laos is looking on the Games as a shot in the arm for its economy. Laos hosted the most recent ASEM Meeting last year, which President Roh Moo-hyun of the Republic of Korea attended.
