Baidu is a China-based company in Beijing that was created in 2000 by Robin Li and Eric Xu. Both are Chinese nationals who worked and studied abroad before returning to China. Baidu has many features including a Chinese language search engine for websites, audio files, and images. Actually, Baidu is sometimes referred to as the Google of China because of its various characteristics. Its supremacy over Google (GOOG, Fortune 500) is much larger than the lead Google possesses over Microsoft (MSFT, Fortune 500) and Yahoo (YHOO, Fortune 500).
Though Baidu is a China-based company, users can access this site from anywhere in the world. There are some differences though between Baidu and Google; Google is featured in many languages and Baidu is only in Chinese. Baidu has more censorship than Google, and is number one in China while Google is number one in other countries. Of course, Google is at a disadvantage because it has limited its presence in China because of governmental censorship. The unfiltered site is accessible at http://www.google.com.hk/. Baidu seems to have a higher growth rate than Google at the moment, but experts wonder how the stock rates will hold up for Baidu in the future.
Are there some concerns that this Chinese search engine may outdo Google in the near future The answer would be yes. We have always had monetary issues with Baidu, though it caters to mostly Chinese citizens while Google is offered to more than 130 countries worldwide.
