Korea Digital Communications (KDC), a South Korean network equipment maker, has advanced into the Chinese digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) business. KDC and the two Chinese government bodies--the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television People's Republic of China (SARFT) and China Information Industry Trade Association (CIITA)-- signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the Chinese DMB business in Beijing, China, on Aug. 5, a KDC spokesman said. The signing ceremony was held with Kim Tae-sub, chairman of KDC, and two senior Chinese government officials -- Yang Jianxiong, deputy executive senior engineer of SARFT, and Xihe Zhong, deputy secretary general of the CIITA. Under the agreement, KDC will participate in the Chinese project to establish standards for digital broadcasting contents, the spokesman said. KDC and the Chinese institutions will also push for joint projects to build a DMB platform and wire & wireless relay networks in China. In addition, KDC and SARFT agreed to conclude a contract, which calls for the Korean company to construct a wire & wireless Internet protocol TV (IPTV) test network in Beijing, in the immediate future, he said.
