The Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) held the world's first interoperability test on terrestrial DMB (T-DMB) on August 22-26. More than 20 companies participated in the event for verifying the interoperability of DMB standards.
Taking part in the event in the field of manufacturing DMB players were Meritech, Perstel, C&S Technology and Innowireless, as well as LG and Samsung Electronics. In the encoding sector, NetCODEC, Pixtree and Ontimetek took part, while True-tech participated in the transmission sector of streaming data over wireless network. Other companies such as B-ma Corp., Vision Telecom Corp., and SM CNS participated in the field of DAB transmission, while Tescom, Agilent Technologies Korea, DTV Interactive, Msys, Rohde & Schwarz Korea took part in the field of testing, measuring, and monitoring DMB technologies.
The main contents for verification at the event were interoperability between DMB-related devices utilizing basic audio and video streams and interoperability between solutions related to DMB data service based on digital broadcasting transmission standards, such as multimedia transmission protocols for the digital transmission of independent data, in addition to Transparent Data Channels and Internet datagram tunneling protocols.
Meanwhile, companies related to the T-DMB service are currently preparing for the launch of their full-fledged service in the Seoul metropolitan area by the end of this year, whereas the Ministry of Information and Communication has already announced its plan to expand the T-DMB service to cover the whole nation by the end of next year.
