SEOUL, KOREA- Director-General for Development Cooperation Park Enna will visit Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo on April 9-12. During the visit, she will meet with Sufian Ahmed, Minister of Finance and Economic Development of Ethiopia, and Raphael Mondonga, DR Congo’s Secretary-General for International Cooperation, to discuss the Country Partnership Strategy (CPS), the document on the ROK’s integrated strategy on official development assistance (ODA) for the two countries in 2012-2015.
Under the prospective CPS, which will serve as a framework for directing the ROK’s ODA for Ethiopia and DR Congo over the next four years, the ROK will provide assistance in a systematic and consistent manner, contributing to the sustainable and balanced development and poverty reduction in the two countries.
The Country Partnership Strategy, when devised, is expected to further deepen the ROK’s bilateral relations with Ethiopia and DR Congo that have been expanded following the visit of President Lee Myung-bak to the countries in July 2011 and the attendance of the two countries at the Fourth High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness (HLF-4) held in Busan last year.
During the visit of President Lee to Ethiopia and DR Congo in July last year, the two sides consulted on ways to expand political and economic ties as well as the ROK’s development assistance for the countries. In November 2011, Prime Minister Meles Zenawi Ares of Ethiopia and Minister of Planning Andre Masombo Monga Akenge of DR Congo attended the HLF-4 in Busan and expressed keen interest in learning from the ROK’s successful experience in national development.
