Proud to be called the "Premier Auto-Identification Solution Provider" For Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) manufacturers in Korea, it is rare to equip all RFID line-ups such as LF (125/134kHz), HF (13.56 MHz), UHF (900 MHz), and Microwave (2.45GHz). Furthermore, in the current environment, with RFID poised to germinate, it is more rare to find a company which acquired certificates of UHF 900MHz RFID System for overseas export from Korea's Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC), the United States, Singapore, etc. In that respect, KISCOM Co., Ltd (www.kiscom.co.kr) deserves to be called 'The Premier Auto-Identification Solution Provider' since the company is equipping all RFID line-ups solely among RFID manufacturers in Korea, acquired certificates for export for the first time at home, and has developed for the first time in Korea its own unique technology, etc. In an exclusive interview on the occasion of the RFID/USN Korea 2005 (International Radio Frequency Identification/Ubiquitous Sensor Network Exhibition & Conference 2005) which will be held on Oct. 12~14 at COEX, Seoul, KISCOM president Han Un-Soo expresses strong confidence in the company's RFID business outlook, saying that KISCOM established this year as the first year of RFID overseas export and the company aims to enter into one of the top five in the world within three years. KISCOM, whose business scope covers design, manufacturing, sales of RFID and system integrator of Auto-ID, related maintenance goods, seized its decisive momentum to transform from a mere barcode manufacturer to today's RFID manufacturer in April 1996 when the company contracted with Hankook Tire for installing RFID system. Since then, the company has been one after another developing RF Modem with Ukraine's "DSD" Lab (Oct. 1997), RFLAN Card System (2.4 GHz) using FHSS method (June, 1999), 125/134kHz RFID System (Dec. 2000), 900MHz Tire Identification System (June, 2001), 13.56MHz, 900MHz RFID System (May, 2002), and 900MHz RFID System (Feb. 2004). What is worth noticing, is that this year KISCOM has acquired a host of RFID certificates for export such as MIC certificate of UHF 900MHz RFID System (Jan.), USA FCC certificate of UHF 900MHz RFID System (April), and Singapore iDA certificate of UHF 900MHz RFID System to pave the way for export. Han emphasized: "There is no rival to challenge us at home," adding that there is no reason why KISCOM cannot compete with world leader companies in the United States or Europe, providing support measures follow, although there is still some difference in terms of marketing ability, awareness degree, capital, and brand. In that regard, the company is planning to lure capital from outside sources to bolster its RFID business. As part of such plans to make RFID overseas market inroads and to strengthen exports, KISCOM is pursuing overseas markets with priority given to Southeast Asia, including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and China. With regard to the company's RFID product's strong points and weak points, Han said that KISCOM products have more stronger points, such as economical electricity consumption, miniaturized micro-antenna and its own inherent technology, rather than weak points whose awareness degree is fragile due to lack of publicity. Major clients include Hankook Tire Co., Ltd (production management system) in the case of LH (125/134KHz), Yangji Resort (membership management system), Hyundai Card Co., Ltd. (inventory management system), Hynix Semiconductor Co., Ltd. (access control & security system), & Yonsei Medical Center (blood & patient tracking system) in the case of HF (13.56MHz), and Daejeon Metropolitan City (car parking system), EB Co., Ltd. (production control & asset tracking system) in the case of UHF (900MHz). Executive vice president Chang Inhyun, who sat in on the interview, pointed out that ongoing projects/UHF (900MHz) are Jangsoo Province (agricultural warehouse management system), Paju City (admission control system), and KT Net (air cargo tracking system). Especially for KT Net project, KISCOM's RFID system will be set up at L.A. airport in USA as well as Incheon airport in Korea, he added. Industry observers comment that KISCOM has become a frontrunner of the RFID field, was possible because the company can satisfy customers' needs with its solution ability about on-the-spot installation as the company's SI long experience of Barcode field is grafted on RFID, new technology of same Auto ID field.
