PRINCETON, USA - Students now have the option to use Korean Won as a payment method for the TOEFL iBT® test. The new payment choice is available to test takers by selecting the credit card option through the TOEFL® online registration system. The Euro, Yen, and Rupee are also now accepted as payment through the online registration system.

For many Korean students, this has the potential for cost-savings as payment is no longer limited to U.S. dollars. TOEFL test takers paying in Won will no longer incur currency exchange fees charged by most debit and credit card companies.

“The option for test takers to use the Korean Won as a payment method for the TOEFL test has been well received in Korea,” explains David Hunt, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of ETS’s Global Division. “Additional enhancements to the registration and testing process are currently being explored. We continue to listen to our test takers and implement innovative ways to make the overall TOEFL experience more efficient.”

In November, ETS announced yet another welcome change for test takers by condensing the testing format of the Reading section to a maximum of four reading passages. The Reading section is no longer divided into separately timed parts, rather all passages and questions are made available in a single block of time allowing test takers to pace themselves through the entire Reading section. Met with applause from students, this change to the format of the TOEFL test highlights another example of how the testing process is becoming more user- friendly, allowing individuals more flexibility by being able to skip questions, go back to review and change responses, or respond to questions they may have skipped.

The TOEFL test is the most widely recognized English-language assessment used by more than 8,500 institutions to assess English proficiency. It is the most accepted English-language assessment worldwide. The TOEFL test measures an individual’s ability to use and understand English and evaluates how well an individual is able to integrate listening, reading, speaking and writing skills. The TOEFL test is used in more than 130 countries by academic institutions, scholarship committees, government agencies and accrediting agencies to measure English proficiency.
