Opening an Advisory Committee for “The 24th Global SW Contest Exhibit”

SEOUL, KOREA – The Advisory Committee, which aims to collect expert opinions for the successful hosting of the 24th Global SW Contest Exhibit, was held on May 29th at Bankers Club of the Korea Federation of Banks Building.

Throughout the course of the day, Cho Sung-kap, president of IPAK(IT Professional Association of Korea: www.ipak.or.kr) appointed Seo Jong-ryeol(president of Korea Internet & Security Agency) as president, Yang Seung-taik(president of IST Consortium, former Minister of Information and Communication) as honorary president, and Kim Byung-gon(president of JavaCommunity.Org) as vice president respectively.

“Global SW Contest Exhibit”, one of the oldest and prestigious SW contest exhibits in Korea, includes awards from the President, Prime Minister, and Minister of Knowledge Economy. Hosted by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, the exhibit is planning to hold its award ceremony on November 26th, Monday, which is SW Industrialist Day, under the supervision of NIPA(National IT Industry Promotion Agency) and IPAK(IT Professional Association of Korea). Applications are available from May 1st to August 31st via email or online application at www.ipak.or.kr. A total of 34 entries will be selected for evaluation.

Like the catchphrase “It is you, the global SW star who changes the world!,” the exhibit is for everyone including students home and abroad, ordinary citizens and businesses while it aims to be the audition for global SW developers in order to discover new SW developers and promote them to be global SW stars.

The most notable portion of the exhibit is the creation of business tasks, which provides opportunities for challenges such as advantages in Imagine Cup(MS Korea) National Team Selection Tournament, and extra points when applying for large conglomerates such as LG Electronics.

Seo Jong-ryeol, president of Korea Internet & Security Agency, is determined to take every step necessary to launch a global promotion and attract better SW entries from businesses at home and abroad. He has also requested greater interest and support from advisory members.

Yang Seung-taik(president of IST Consortium, former Minister of Information and Communication) urged the supervisory institutions to play more active roles in seeking cases where any award winning software has been commercialized in the market after the competition and to improve the whole process by taking care of all the preparations before and after the Contest Exhibit.

Kwak Duk-hoon, President of EBS, said that he would seek a variety of ways to put the present and the future of the software industry into perspective and also showcase software developers in the field of media.

Finally, Cho Sung-kap, president of IPAK(IT Professional Association of Korea), renewed his emphasis on the fact that the software field presents the highest added value in the IT industry and vowed to do his best to make this old and prestigious exhibit a sure gateway for talented software designers to become rising stars in the IT field. In addition, he asked for more support from advisory members and business related people in order for the Global SW Contest Exhibit to emerge as the most reputable contest representing Korea at home and overseas.

Officials from sponsors who participated that day have pledged to spare no effort to cooperate in hiring talented SW developers and discovering quality software with marketability.
