SEOUL, KOREA - The Visit Korea Committee named fast-rising Korean girl group SISTAR the publicity ambassador for the “2012 K-Pop Cover Dance Festival in celebration of the Visit Korea Year" at the Seoul Gwanghwamun Press Center on the morning of June 25.
To be held for the second time following last year’s event, the Cover Dance Festival is currently drawing passionate interest and response from global Hallyu (Korean Wave) fans with over 700 teams from 50 countries applying for participation. SISTAR is enjoying massive popularity in North America, Oceania, and Africa, with numerous fans posting videos of the SISTAR cover dance.
“We feel very happy and proud to have been selected as the representative face of the Korean Wave following the designation of our senior KARA last year. In return for their love of Korean Wave, we are going to stage our performances actively so that the global fans can also take interest in Korea.” said Publicity Ambassador-to be SISTAR.
In this festival, teams that passed the first online preliminaries on the cover dance festival homepage (http://www.coverdance.org) are to go through the second offline competition; the winning teams of the second round are invited to Korea to compete in the cover dance finals to be held in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do at the end of September this year.
Starting with the regional round in Nigeria on June 23, the second round will take place in turn by region in states such as Hungary, Indonesia, Philippines, Brazil, India, Thailand, Australia, Russia, Japan, and Korea. As publicity ambassador, SISTAR plans to visit personally the state that records the most participants in the online preliminaries as well as to serve as member of the judging panel.
