SEOUL,KOREA- Advanced Micro Devices Inc. announced a new accelerated processing unit (APU) on June 27. Its latest addition, designed for small form factors at low power, caters to those who look for high-end graphics and x86 compatibility at low price.
Mr. Arum Lyengar, Vice President and General Manager of AMD Embedded Solutions said, "We were striving for that critical balance of performance, power efficiency and cost for power, and cost-sensitive embedded applications, and we've achieved it."
The embedded G-T16R APU based on 40nm technology & low power Ontario core is optimized to use only 2.3 watt and 4.5 watt TDP(thermal design power) on average, and the processor's clocked speed at 615Mz, lower than other G-Series SKUs, explains its ulta low power consumption. Embedded product designers can upgrade their applications seamlessly with it.
"It’s critical that the latest AMD Embedded G-Series APUs provide compatibility with existing x86 processors while supporting the latest interface technologies." Tirias Research's principal analyst, Jim Mcgregor continued, "Having a simple migration path allows engineers to develop robust designs using the latest DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort display technologies."
The new unit supports AMD64, SIMD instructions up to SSE3, and Virtualization. Its on-chip HD 6250 GPU runs at 276MHz. The other features include a legacy I/O card support, an ISA bus application with DMA support, DVI/HDMI/Display Port interfaces, etc.
