Linking various service providers and hardware manufacturers The telematics industry is a giant convergence-type industry, which links with not only automobiles and IT industries, but also almost all sectors, including wireless communication networks and system, terminals, contents, security, SI, insurance, financing, transportation, logistics and distribution. The telematics service forms a value chain linking contents providers (CP), telematics service providers (TSP), mobile communication providers, manufacturers of communication terminals, makers of finished automobiles, and customers.
Among them, in general, makers of finished automobiles and mobile communication providers become center of the value chain and create business alliances with other businessmen, playing a role as TSP. The profit structure of Korea's telematics industry can be largely divided into the telematics service market and the hardware market. In the service and hardware market, enterprises are dividing the market's profit structure according to their respective roles. To use basic services offered by telematics service providers (TSP), such as traffic information and entertainment, telematics service users should offer subscription fees to the service providers following their subscription to the services. Meanwhile, TSP should pay part of their profits stemming from the use of contents to contents providers and pay expenses for the use of communication infrastructure to communication providers offering base infrastructure. In the case of the automobile and system manufacturers in the hardware sector of the telematics industry, profits are generated according to sales of equipment. Accordingly, sales offices and after market suppliers can enjoy profits stemming from the sales and installment of system.
