SEOUL, KOREA — The Korean government pronounced the second Thursday in July as "Information Protection Day" and its month as "Information Protection Month". On 11, "the 1st Information Protection Day celebration", held at the Lotte Hotel at Chamsil, Seoul, was organized by four organizations of Korea Communications Commission(KCC), Ministry of Public Administration and Security(MOPAS), Ministry of Knowledge Economy, and National Intelligence Service(NIS).
Over 300 people including notable personalities from all related-industries and fields participated in the world's first event. And President Lee Myoung-bak sent his video message, "We all are here to honor the 1st Information Protection day, and I thank those who have made efforts to improve the information protection and its industry. And it is critical to be thoroughly ready and on the lookout for any risks and threats against our information society."
Then, govenment awards were given to "2012's Information Protection Honorees" for their past achievements in Research & Development for Information Security and Anti -Cyber Attack.
As part of the Information Protection Month, multiple affairs are set throughout this month. "the 1st International Information Protection Conference" and "Job Fair for Information Protection" opened on July 11. Also, "Teens' IT Protection Camp"
(August,4~5), "Financial Security Camp for the Undergraduate"(July,16~25), and "Information Ethics Protection Camp"(July,23~24) are ahead.
For CEOs, there is "CEO Information Protection Strategy Forum"(July,12). "Regional Peripatetic Education on Personal Information Protection"(July,16~23) and "Information Security Education"(July,9~13) for employees from financial firms are on the way.
"Following last year's introduction of Personal Information Protection Act, 'Information Protection Day' has been appointed this year, and a number of various other govenment events are arranged. We expect that it will raise the bar of Korea's awareness toward the information security to a world-class level,"said an official.
