As a number of world-famous game companies are advancing into the domestic game, the competition in the domestic game industry this year is expected to be fiercer than ever.
For instance, Electronic Arts, the world's largest game maker, has designated 2006 as the year to aggressively attack the online, mobile game market, hinting that the company will employ a powerful strategy this year to grasp a greater market share in Korea. Meanwhile, the U.S. game company, Blizzard Entertainment, plans to introduce its multinet working video game, "StarCraft, Ghost" at the 2006 Blizzard Worldwide Invitational to be held on Feb. 3 at COEX in Seoul.
Activision of the United States, which is famous for its game, "Call of Duty," which was a huge hit for the PC, is moving to officially establish its subsidiary "Activision Korea" on April 1.
Activision is reportedly making contacts with a Korean game developer for development of new games suitable for the taste of Koreans, an industry source said. With the active inroads into the Korean game market by world-famous game companies, domestic and foreign game makers are expected to stage cutthroat competition in Korea this year, he said. To survive the fierce competition and keep their leading role in the global game market, Korean game makers are required to upgrade the quality of their contents and services further, he added.
