Lucent Technologies Korea has big plans to hit the domestic convergence market in 2006 Lucent Technologies Korea is focusing its core business strategy for 2006 on leading the convergence flow, John Yang, CEO of the company, said recently.
Lucent Technologies, which suggested a way to build a network based on IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) architecture, signed a contract with Singular Wireless, a representative communication provider in North America, and SBC Communication to supply IMS solution at the end of last year, cementing its position as a leader in the convergence network field. Before signing the contract, it also concluded a supply contract with Sprint of the United States, mmO2 of Europe and China Telecom of China. At the end of last year, meanwhile, Lucent Technologies received the 2005 Best Marketing Award from Light Reading for its brilliant leadership in the IMS sector. Based on the remarkable results of its mother company in the global market, Korea Lucent Technologies plans to attack the domestic convergence market this year. Related to this, it concluded a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with KT for technology exchanges related to wire & wireless fixed mobile convergence (FMC) last year, securing a superior position in the convergence network solution field. Lucent Technologies Korea has been going all-out to help communication providers seek new profit sources by developing multimedia service and application suitable for the convergence era, he said. With the market debut of such convergence-type services as voice over Internet protocol (VoIP), portable Internet, WiBro, and digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) and collapse of barriers between wire and wireless, between communication and broadcasting, communication carriers hope to implement multimedia services more easily and efficiently. Lucent Technologies is a leader in offering solutions supporting blended lifestyle services, including e-mail, voice, video mail connections through such applications as two-way game, IP TV, and Active PhoneBook. It also plans to accelerate its supply of VoIP solution for next-generation multimedia network, which will help communication carriers and corporate customers create new profits, he said. Lucent Technologies Korea received an order for supply of VoIP solution from KT last year, following Dacom and Hanaro Telecom, preoccupying the domestic VoIP market. To keep its superior position in the VoIP market, Lucent Technologies Korea plans to strengthen its marketing activities not only for communication carriers but also for enterprises this year, said Yang. Maintaining a leadership in the optical network field, Korea Lucent will also focus its energy on supplying "Lambda Unite," which supports MSPP and OXC functions to major communication carriers, including KT. Along with this, Lucent Technologies supplied optical transmission equipment to Dream Line last year for broadcasting service of cable TV operators, projects to supply Metropolis DMX and Metropolis DMXtend products, which are playing a role of metro platform, to enterprises and cable TV system operators (SO). In the wireless field, Lucent Technologies also has experiences of building 2G and 3G in Korea. At the same time, it will exert doubled efforts for effective operation and improvement of service quality of 3G1X EV-DO it supplied to KTF. It also plans to suggest ways for enterprises to evolve into the "convergence network" actively this year. It is moving to supply equipment necessary for construction of EV-DO Rev.A network now being propelled by LG Telecom, while seeking ways to supply HSDPA system. Lucent Technologies has also showed a steady growth in the home network field, which attracts keen attention in the market as a promising convergence service. In the service business sector, Lucent Technologies Korea is also engaging in the project to help build state-of-the-art residential environment based on its long experience and know-how about the network consisting of vendor equipment. Besides, Lucent Technologies Korea has been actively involved in the digital home network consortium project of SK Telecom, while supplying such home network solutions as residential gateway and wall pad to Samsung Heavy Industries and Yulim Construction.
