HP Korea diversifies products and achieves record share of domestic hardware and software market
Hewlett Packard (HP) has been supplying clients with diverse products and services dealing with IT infrastructure, personal computing, access devices, global services, and imaging printing. It provides products, technologies, solutions, and services needed by not only consumers in general but also corporations. The company invests US$4 billion a year in research and development for products, solutions, and new technologies. It does its utmost to improve the quality of life of customers by creating business and social value through unceasing development of technologies and solutions," said Choi Joon-keun, President of HP Korea.

In 2004, HP Korea's total sales amounted to 1.4873 trillion won and total sales in 2005 had grown by about 10 percent compared to the previous year. The growth was recorded especially because of the improved business conditions in Korea and many big projects in the market.
President Choi remarked, "HP has diverse products that can be offered to customers. It has all the products needed for the establishment of an IT environment, ranging from personal PC's to servers for corporate use. It constructs all the IT infrastructures needed by customers, together with services and consulting." HP Korea has been recording number one or number two market shares in all the areas, including PC's, notebook PC's, servers, etc. And it has been exerting its utmost efforts for customer satisfaction. In 2005, the Personal System Group of HP Korea achieved the record of surpassing 10 percent in terms of the market share of the entire PC market. It sold over 100,000 PC units per quarter. The plan for 2006 is to continue to lead in the PC market through marketing strategies befitting large corporations, small- and mediumsized corporation, and consumer markets through the 'Go to Market' strategy.
In the personal printer market, 2005 was a year in which HP Korea had concentrated on expansion in the inkjet printer market and home photo printing. In 2006, the company plans to concentrate even more on digital printing in the areas of professional photography and graphics.
In 2006, HP Korea plans to strengthen its radio frequency identification (RFID) business, which has been newly introduced to the service business and market of the company. It is expected that RFID will become lively in the market in 2006. HP has been emphasizing the role of drawing a big picture for the materialization of RFID in the field of distribution.
For cost reduction on the part of corporations, HP had begun the total printing management (TPM) business. A printer, fax machine, scanner, photocopier, etc., are bundled as an HP network printer which is used on a turnkey contract basis.
Companies pay money according to the amount of use.
In terms of PC's, the company plans to launch the Blade PC, which has strong points with regard to security, maintenance, and repair. And it expects growth of the sales of the Tablet PC's in 2006. In terms of servers, the company expects expansion of the sales of the Unix servers through the launch of Montecito in the beginning of 2006. With regard to online, portals, and large-size data centers, it has high expectations regarding the sales of the Blade servers. Also, it has the hope that the server message block (SMB) market will grow. As for operating systems (OS's), it expects growth of Linux servers.
With regard to HP's contribution to Korea's exports through the HP head office's purchases of Korean firms'computer parts, it is expected that this will amount to US$5 billion in 2006. As for the export items, there are PC monitors, TFT-LCD's, D-RAM's, Mask ROM's, semiconductors, printed circuit boards (PCB's), CD-ROM's, hard disk drives (HDD's), etc.
HP's adaptive enterprise strategy brings forward cost reduction effects by achieving excellent results through little investment through the enabling of the stability and efficiency of business and real-time business agility. It helps enterprises predict diverse requirements of new markets, respond speedily, and create and seize new opportunities.
In addition, through a consulting service based on Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), it conducts prior consulting, including Business Process Management (BPM), Enterprise Architecture (EA), etc. It derives the system integration (SI) projects and others of the like resulting from this.
In the past two years, HP has selected 50 major corporations of the world as corporations for adaptive enterprise consulting. And, the experiences have been accumulated as intellectual properties. HP has been capturing the 64-bit Windows and Linux markets for the expansion of the enterprise multi-OS market. And HP has been maintaining its leadership in the whole x86 server (Industry standard server) market. In 2005, HP was number two in terms of the share of the storage market. And, it was number one in terms of market share among total solution vendors. HP has been utiliz ing the biggest strong points of its end-to-end solution supply.
In terms of the internal organization, the level of utilization of the storage business manpower is maximized. The areas where the sales staff in full charge of customers cannot handle are managed through cooperation with the sales team in complete charge of storage and capable channels.
HP has the 'HP Global Method' and also the experiences of applying this method. When HP's client companies in the world proceed with a system integration (SI) project, HP applies and utilizes this method.
"HP has been strengthening its global delivery organization. HP Korea has been positively considering the strengthening of not only its domestic organization and manpower but also the global delivery organization, keeping in pace with requirements of the customers and the global trend, from the fiscal year 2006. And it has been actively examining the use of overseas manpower and other such measures for providing efficient price structures and quality for SI projects of customers," stated President Choi.
