Busan Port Authority (BPA) participated in the recent 7th IAPH Asia/Oceania Meeting in Karachi, held Feb.14-17 in Pakistan.
The participation at the Meeting provided good opportunities for BPA to establish international networking with world's leading port and logistics companies and organizations. In particular, BPA used it as a chance for marketing activities and to make efforts to host the IAPH conference in 2011 in Busan.
The International Association of Ports & Harbors (IAPH) aims at enhancing cooperation and seeking mutual benefits in the ports and shipping industry and 230 port organizations from 90 countries are the regular members.
In 2003, the 4th IAPH Asia/Oceania Meeting was held in Penang, Malaysia, and Korea's Vice Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries officially expressed willingness to host the 2011 IAPH conference in Busan. The final result will be announced at the 25th IAPH conference in 2007.
Last year, the President of BPA, June Suk Choo took part in the 6th IAPH conference held in Shanghai, 2005 and she asked board members to support Busan to host the IAPH conference in 2011. The response was positive at the Meeting.
