Busan New Port welcomed its first international regular shipping line on February 25.
Busan Port Authority said MSC, the world's second shipping company, signed a contract with PNC (Pusan Newport Corporation) to call twice weekly at the newly opened port.
The MSC's call was a jump start to vitalize Busan New Port which faced difficulties in attracting cargo since its opening and the Korean government also gained momentum in developing Busan New Port into the hub port in Northeast Asia. The first vessel, LISA, 5048 TEU from MSC rotating China, Busan, and North America called at Busan New Port at 10: 30 a.m and 800 containers were handled.
