Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) is preparing a variety of events in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of its founding.
ETRI is the nation's biggest state-invested research center in charge of electronics and information & communications with some 1,850 regular employees.
It spends a total of 500 billion won in budget annually. More than 90% of the total employees are those with master's degree or doctorate.
So far this year, it earned a total of 20,000 patents, including 4,400 international patents, and posted 408 billion won in royalty income by transferring 1,619 kinds of technologies to 3,060 companies. Its contribution to the national economy during the past 10 years amounted to 204 trillion won, representing a 46.5-fold of the ETRI's total investment of 4.4 trillion won.
It plans to hold an international academic seminar in October, which invites great scholars from foreign countries, a concert, and sports event to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its founding.
