KDC's 3-D LCD mass production line is completed

Korea's representative system network specialist group KDC (Korea Digital Communications Corp.) has constructed 3-D (three-dimensional) LCD panel mass production line for the first time in Korea. Marked by a ceremony for the completion of the building held on Feb. 27, 2006, KDC has equipped itself with a high-density control clean room production facility from 2.2" small-sized LCD process line through 21" middle-sized LCD fabrication line. KDC's officials responsible for this 3-D LCD mass production line said that through three-dimensional panel supply of all sorts standards, these will be provided to all mobile and multimedia machinery and tools in which 3-D materialization is possible, including TV, cellular phone, PDA, game machine, PC monitor. Deciding on the 3-D screen industry as a national-policy project of the government, called "3-D Vision 2010", Korea's Ministry of Information & Communication, has announced that the government would proactively pursue 3-D screens in various fields such as broadcasting, telecom, and game etc. until 2010. Accordingly, experts forecast that a new huge market of domestic information household electronics as well as information telecom parts will be created and this will be nurtured as a next-generation export, with the core engine project to link cellular phones and semiconductors. It has been revealed that KDC has embarked upon joint development with venture start-up "Masterimage" holding the highest technology power at home and abroad regarding this technology to be able to view 3-D screen images without wearing specific glasses. The two companies have concluded a strategic agreement for R&D, mass production, and marketing including mutual capital investment. KDC officials added that the Group has a firm supply contract under way with mobile, multimedia machinery and tools, game machine development firms and so forth. With this mass production line completion as an impetus, KDC raised its turnover goal in this field alone from an initial 20 billion won (approx. $20.5 million) to 30 billion won (approx. $30.8 million). As the main project of this year, KDC plans to maximize same business' synergy effects by making inroads into the multimedia machinery and tool development and content business of the convergence of broadcasting amd telecom, including 3-D screen business.
