The President's Cup E-sports Contest in Korea will soon be a reality. At The International E-sports Festival (IEF) 2006 press gathering held at the Broadcasting Hall on February 21, Jeong, Chung-lae of the ruling Uri Party and Chairman of the Gathering of National Assemblymen for the Development of E-sports and the Game Industry, said "The government, the ruling party, and the e-sports industry have jointly formed a task force and have been pursuing the President's Cup E-sports Contest." It can be interpreted from the fact that the President's Cup Esports Contest will be founded that, 10 years after it had quickened in its womb, e-sports has received the official national recognition as a formal sports event that lives up to its reputation. As such, it is forecasted that it will function as a new catalyst for not only the popularization of e-sports but also the invigoration of the related market. According to the plan, for the President's Cup's E-sports Contest, the formation of organizing committees by 16 cities and provinces is indispensable. And in the future, these will be expanded into the city and province branches of Korea E-sports. It is said that Chairman Jeong met with Dr. Kim, Jung-kil, the President of the Korea Sports Council, and that they have reached a general consensus regarding such a plan. Once the 16 city and province branches of E-sports are created, the Korea Sports Council's prior condition for organizational membership of the formation of 11 or more city and province branches gets satisfied. Naturally, the way will then be open for e-sports to be recognized as a formal athletic event registered with the Korea Sports Council.
