On February 21, Jin Dae-je, the Korean Minister of Information and Communication, and Jorge Briz, the Foreign Minister of Guatemala concluded a Korea-Guatemala IT cooperation agreement. They stated that they agreed to strengthen cooperation in the areas of digital multimedia broadcasting, mobile telecommunications, cyber security, the cultivation of IT manpower, super-high speed Internet, and others.
In addition to the signing of the IT cooperation agreement, Minister Jin Dae-je had a meeting with the Guatemalan Minister Briz during which he introduced and explained the development of Korea's IT. And he expressed his hope that Korea will become a good partner for the development of the IT of Guatemala, which has been actively pursuing informatization recently. Minister Briz stated that he highly evaluates Korea's IT technology and development and that Guatemala, too, very much hopes for cooperation with Korea. He said that he has high expectations that the conclusion of the agreement this time will prove to be an opportunity for IT cooperation between the two countries.
Based on the IT cooperation agreement, the Ministry of Information and Communication plans to actively pursue the invitational training of Guatemalan manpower, the dispatch of youth Internet service teams, and others of the like. Prior to the signing of the IT cooperation agreement this time, Rafael Salazar, the Guatemalan ambassador to Korea, and Roh Jun-hyong, the Korean Vice Minister of Information and Communication, had a preliminary talk. There, the ambassador had expressed the strong intention of Guatemala regarding the concluding of an IT cooperation agreement with Korea and had asked for active support.
