Samsung SDS was announced as the winner of the 24th Global Software Contest’s highest honor on the 13th Software Industry Day

SEOUL, KOREA - At the 13th Software Industry Day held on November 26, Samsung SDS was announced as the winner of the 24th Global Software Contest’s highest honor (the President’s Award) for its independently-developed mobile device management solution “MDM v3.2 (Mobiledesk MDM v3.2).”

MDM v3.2 is a security and management solution that allows employees to effectively prevent information leaks and manage corporate assets via mobile devices. In case smartphones go missing, MDM v3.2-using employees can remotely control the missing smartphones and connect to security identification systems, thereby nipping the possibility of corporate information spillage in the bud.

Based on “white listing” (an application which scans software and vendors and allows only those trusted applications or files to run on your computer), the award-winning MDM v3.2 supports software installation and control and decides whether security applications should kick in when specific software is executed or terminated. Besides, as it comes with an intuitive administration interface, it is easy to manage. Thanks to its stability verified by over 40 companies, it was honored with the Presidents’ Award in the 24th Global Software Contest.

Having foreseen that demand for MDM solutions (the key security technology for smartphones) would pick up in tandem with the adoption of mobile offices triggered by the ever-growing popularity of smartphones around the globe, Samsung SDS embarked on the development of a MDM solution in 2010 and released prototypes. Since then, Samsung SDS has obtained its own MDM solution that differentiates itself from others in terms of technology and functions and has continuously concentrated on making functional improvements to it.

On the international front, MDM v3.2 has also been in the spotlight. As part of Samsung SDS’s strategy to expand its pool of global partners, it has been ramping up its joint projects with companies in the EU, Africa, China, etc.

In May of this year, Samsung SDS forged a strategic partnership with Indra Sistemas (a Spanish information technology and defense systems company) and signed a contract to supply its MDM v3.2 to Indra Sistemas. These two partners are expected to take on the global market with the Samsung Galaxy S equipped with both Indra Sistemas’s integrated security communication solution and Samsung SDS’s MDM v3.2. Samsung SDS reckons that its tie-up with Indra Sistemas, which has gained a firm footing in Spanish-speaking regions like Southern European, South Africa and South America, will give much-needed impetus to Samsung SDS’s forays into these markets.

Samsung SDS also struck a strategic partnership with Smartdot (a groupware solution provider). Smartdot, a longstanding IBM partner, has secured as its corporate customers over 30% of the nearly 110 state-owned companies headquartered in Beijing. Samsung SDS and Smartdot are poised to jointly develop mobile groupware based on the Samsung SEMP (Secure Enterprise Mobility Platform) in order to break into China’s markets for mobile groupware and mobile applications for businesses.

The Samsung SEMP was developed in 2012 as a comprehensive, tightly integrated mobile enterprise application platform, tailored specifically to mobile operating systems. The Samsung SEMP is designed to streamline specialized corporate tasks, such as manufacturing, distribution, sales, finance and medical services, so it promises the timely provision of services living up to user demands.

Senior Director Hye-jin Hong (who is in charge of Samsung SDS’s mobile solution business) said, “Samsung SDS’s mobile business began in 2008 with its focus on the overseas market. Building on business knowhow that has accumulated in the domestic market and our competitiveness in mobile solutions, Samsung SDS will make inroads into the EU and Chinese mobile markets and into the rest of the world.
