SEOUL, KOREA – The Korea International Trade Association said that Korea next year will make a 4-percent growth in exports and reach a trade surplus of USD 30 billion.
According to the Institute for International Trade on December 2, the exports next year would be USD 575 billion, up 4.6 percent from this year's 549.6 billion. The forecast trade surplus figure would also surpass USD 30 billion from this year's estimated USD 29.5 billion.
The KITA-affiliated research institute said, "Despite adverse external conditions, Korea's exports will increase gradually." However, the study's predictions were based on the assumptions that the world economy maintains its growth rate of 3.5 percent and there is no abrupt change in the won-dollar exchange rate.
The increase in export volume next year will be led by shipbuilding and mobile handsets that have seen lackluster growth this year, the institute said.
