SEOUL, KOREA – Samsung C&T has won an order worth USD 600 million for the construction of a combined cycle thermal power plant in Malaysia. The company announced on December 3 that it signed a deal worth USD 596 million with Malaysia’s Energy Commission for a 1,071-megawatt combined cycle gas turbine power plant project.
The project is to build a power plant at Prai in Penang, 350 kilometers northwest from Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur. The construction period is 32 months. In the bidding for this project, Samsung C&T has beaten five foreign consortiums.
A Samsung C&T official said, “We succeeded in winning this order thanks to our second-to-none capability in maximizing the output and efficiency of the plant, plus active cooperation with a local developer TNB.”
Samsung C&T plans to actively explore more opportunities in the global power plant market, including the Southeast Asian region.
