SEOUL, KOREA - Samsung Electronics saw its market share in the world’s tablet computer market double in the third quarter of this year from a quarter agoAccording to a U.S. market research firm Strategic Analytics, Samsung Electronics commanded a share of 18.1 percent in the Tablet computer market in the third quarter of this year, about a two-fold jump from 9.2 percent a quarter before.
Apple maintained its lead with a share of 52.9 percent but its market share fell by more than 15 percentage points compared to a quarter ago.
The gap between Apple and Samsung Electronics, accordingly, narrowed to 34.8 percentage points in the third quarter from 59.2 percentage points in the second quarter.
Key factors behind the hike in Samsung’s Tablet computer market share include the fact that Samsung achieved a share of 43.6 percent in Latin America, overtaking Apple. In contrast, Apple suffered about a 20-percent decline in the market share in North America, Asia, Latin America, and African markets.

삼성전자, 태블릿PC 글로벌 시장 점유율 2배 '껑충'
삼성전자의 올해 3분기 태블릿PC 시장점유율이 2분기 대비 2배 가량 증가했다.
16일 미국 시장조사기관 스트래티지애널리틱스(SA)에 따르면 삼성전자의 3분기 태블릿PC 시장점유율은 18.1%를 기록, 2분기(9.2%)보다 2배 가까이 늘어났다.
애플은 시장점유율 52.9%로 1위를 차지했지만 2분기(68.4%)보다는 15%포인트 이상 줄었다.
삼성전자와 애플 간 점유율 격차도 59.2%포인트에서 34.8%포인트로 좁혀졌다.
삼성전자의 점유율이 크게 상승한 것은 중남미 시장에서 시장점유율 43.6%를 기록하며 애플을 제친 데 따른 것이다. 반면 애플은 북미와 아시아, 중동·아프리카에서 약 20%가량 점유율이 하락했다.
다른 시장조사기관인 GfK도 지난달 말 영국·독일·프랑스 등 유럽 6개국 태블릿 시장을 조사한 결과 삼성전자가 29.2%의 점유율로 애플을 제치고 1위를 차지했다고 발표했다.
