SEOUL, KOREA - Samsung Electronics announced on December 26 that it would upgrade its smart TV content platform “Smart Hub” and show off at the CES that is slated to be held on January 8, 2013 in Las Vegas.
The upgraded Smart Hub will make it easier for consumers to find the contents that they want to enjoy. Unlike existing Smart Hub that features a simple configuration of contents on an app mode, the new Smart Hub will divide contents into five categories.
The five categories consist of “On TV” for real-time TV watching, VOD content-based “Movie & TV Show,” “Apps,” a place to enjoy a variety of apps, “Social” with social networking content-sharing function, and “Photo, Video & Music” for personal contents.
In particular, Samsung applied its in-house motion control technology to realize a Flipping function, a feature to enable users to turn the screens simply with a hand motion just like turning the pages of a book with fingers.

삼성 스마트TV, 카테고리별 화면 새 '스마트 허브' 선봬
삼성전자는 자사 스마트TV의 콘텐츠 플랫폼인 '스마트 허브'를 업그레이드해 내년 1월 8일 미국 라스베이거스에서 열리는 가전전시회 CES에서 첫 공개한다고 26일 밝혔다.
새로워진 스마트 허브는 소비자들이 다양한 콘텐츠를 보다 쉽게 찾아갈 수 있도록 개선한 점이 특징. 기존에는 콘텐츠들이 앱 형태로 단순 나열돼 있었던데 비해, 카테고리를 5개로 나눠 구분해 놓았다.
실시간 TV 시청을 위한 '온 티비', VOD 콘텐츠 기반의 '무비앤 티비 쇼, 다양한 앱을 사용할 수 있는 '앱스' SNS 콘텐츠 공유 기능의 '소셜', 개인용 콘텐츠인 '포토, 비디오 앤 뮤직' 등으로 구성했다.
특히 5 개의 화면을 삼성 고유의 모션 콘트롤 기능을 통해 책을 보듯 손동작 만으로 넘기며 볼 수 있는 플리핑(Flipping) 기능을 적용했다. 새 스마트 허브는 2013년형 스마트TV에 적용된다. 올해 나온 스마트TV를 구입한 사람들은 '에볼루션 키트'를 통해 업그레이드를 할 수 있고, 그 전 모델들은 해당되지 않는다.
이선우 영상디스플레이사업부 부사장은 "하나의 TV로 5대의 TV를 가진 듯한 다양함을 제공할 수 있을 것"이라며 "이를 통해 소비자들이 실시간 방송과 앱 등 다양한 스마트 콘텐츠를 더욱 편리하게 즐길 수 있을 것"이라고 말했다.
