SEOUL, KOREA - Strategy and Finance Minister Park Jae-wan said on January 2 that his ministry is committed to maintaining the balanced budget principle ahead of the administrative transition. He said this in the New Year's ceremony at the new Sejong City government complex, adding, "It is extremely hard to keep a principle once it is compromised."
"In the 2013 budget deliberation session, we could defend the balanced budget principle by resisting attempts to issue more government bonds," he said.
As for the moving into the new building, he mentioned, "Nowadays smart work is a must-have item for most workers in both private and public sectors. The staff members in our ministry can now work all around the clock while staying home longer. Reporting through electronic means has become norm too."

박재완, "국채발행 막아 균형재정 원칙 지켜야"
박재완 기획재정부 장관은 2일 새 정부 출범을 앞두고 균형재정 원칙을 지키겠다는 뜻을 밝혔다.
박 장관은 이날 정부세종청사에서 열린 시무식 신년사에서 "원칙은 한 번 무너지면 바로 세우기 어렵고 양보할 수 없는 원칙은 끝까지 지켜야 한다"고 말했다.
이어 "2013년도 예산안 심의 과정에서 국채 추가발행만큼은 끝까지 막아 균형재정 원칙을 지킬 수 있었다"고 말했다. 박 장관은 또 세종시 이전, 정부 조직개편설 등으로 기강이 해이해질 것도 염려했다.
숭례문 화재, 삼풍백화점 붕괴 등 대형 사고는 선거 후 인수인계 기간에 발생했다는 점을 들며 인재에 유의하자고 강조했다.
세종청사 이전과 관련해선 "스마트 워크는 선택이 아니라 필수가 됐다"면서 "이를 통해 특정 근무시간대에 얽매이지 않고 야근이 줄었으며, 서면 보고는 전자 보고로 바뀌었다"고 평가했다.
