DELAWARE, USA - InterDigital, Inc., a Philadelphia-based patent troll, has filed a complaint on January 2 with the U.S. International Trade Commission against Samsung, Nokia, ZTE, and Huawei. The famed company holding numerous patents on wireless products asked the ITC to ban the U.S. import of products made by these companies. It also filed a patent lawsuit with a Delaware court.
Earlier in June 2011, InterDigital had accused Nokia, ZTE, and Huawei with the ITC and added now Samsung to the lawsuit. The Samsung products to be included in the litigation are the Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S3, Ativ S, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note 10.1, Galaxy Stellar, and Galaxy Tab 2.
InterDigital is a company engaging in cinfringement lawsuits without producing anything based on the inventory of patents it has acquired. For example, it has collected US$290 million in royalties from LG Electronics for five years between 2006 and 2010 and raised a lawsuit against the same company in 2011 for more royalty payments.

'특허괴물' 인터디지털, 삼성전자 소송
‘특허 괴물’로 불리는 인터디지털이 삼성전자 등을 상대로 특허 소송을 제기했다.
인터디지털은 삼성전자와 노키아, 화웨이, ZTE 등이 자사가 보유한 3G 및 4G 통신 특허 7건을 침해했다며 미국 무역위원회(ITC)에 수입금지를 요청했다고 2일(현지시간) 발표했다. 이 회사는 또 같은 이유로 미국 델라웨어주 법원에 판매 금지를 요구하는 특허 소송을 냈다.
인터디지털은 앞서 2011년 6월 노키아와 화웨이, ZTE 등을 ITC에 제소한 뒤 이번 소송 대상에 삼성전자를 추가했다. 삼성전자 제품 가운데 갤럭시노트2와 갤럭시S3 등 주력 상품은 물론 아티브S, 갤럭시노트, 갤럭시노트 10.1, 갤럭시 스텔라, 갤럭시탭2 등이 소송 대상에 포함된 것으로 알려졌다. 인터디지털은 특허를 사들여 제품을 만들지 않고 소송을 통해 로열티 수입을 거두는 ‘특허괴물’로 불리는 회사다. 2006~2010년 LG전자에서 2억9000만달러의 로열티를 챙기다 계약이 끝나자 2011년 LG전자를 상대로 특허사용료를 요구하기 위해 소송을 제기하기도 했다.
