In June next year, the construction of a high-tech apartment-type factory in the Gaeseong Industrial Complex will be completed. A big number of Korean small- and medium-sized companies, engaged in textiles, sewing, and others, will move in.
Also, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for business cooperation between the enterprises that have entered into the exemplary estate of the Gaeseong Industrial Complex, on the one hand, and large companies and distribution businesses, on the other hand, will be exchanged, thereby supporting the securing of the market, technological cooperation, and others of the firms in the industrial complex.
On May 16, the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation (KICOX) announced that the groundbreaking ceremony for the apartment-type factory will be held with the attendance by over 200 people, including key figures, in the Gaeseong Industrial Complex on May 17.
KICOX was selected as a tenant of the site of the apartment-type factory in the 1st phase sale-in-lots of the Gaeseong Industrial Complex in September last year. It plans to build a one-roof type factory in which many firms move into a building by June next year. The apartment-type factory will be built on a 4,000-pyong site.
It will have a basement floor and five stories above ground. The total floor space will be 8,020 pyong. It is planned that Korean small- and medium-sized enterprises in types of industry that are labor-intensive, including textiles, sewing, and others, will move in first.
Other than the factory facilities, diverse support facilities- including dormitories, education and training facilities, sports facilities, product showrooms, restaurants, stores, and others- will be established.
